Individual Note
His eminence as a doctor was obvious. In 1852 he endorsed a product called Allsopp's Pale or Bitter Ale in an advert which appeared in the Scotsman newspaper on the 4th of August.
A newspaper report:
The magnificent sum of £20 has been received by the most Rev. Dr. Conaty, in aid of the Christian Scools, Cavan, from James Teevan, Esq., M.D. London; and £20 from his brother, John Teevan, Esq., Croydon. His lordship has contributed a similar sum for the same purpose.
Early census returns show him to be a surgeon. By 1871 he was a general practitioner and Member of the College of Surgeons. He was living with a medical assistant, and four servants - a butler, a footman, a housekeeper and a housemaid. He stayed at 30 Cheesham St, St George Hanover Square in Westminster.
In 1881 he stayed at 18 Chesham Place, St George Hanover Square. a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, he was still unmarried. Living without any family, he nevertheless employed a butler, a footman, a cook, a housemaid and a kitchenmaid.
He left a will.
