Individual Note
In Scotland he was a coal miner. In 1885/6 he emigrated to America.
He is listed in the 1891-3 trade directories as a labourer, and he appears in the the 1900 and 1910 censuses in New Jersey with his mother, working as a silk mill weaver.
He is also in the 1920 Census in Totowa, Passaic, New Jersey. He was staying with his sister Annie Hughes. Her home was owned but mortgaged, and she was a widow while Andrew was still single. He was a weaver but she didn't work. Both he and Annie could read and write.
