Note on Marriage

John emigrated to America in 1889. In 1890 he was listed in an Oregon trade directory as a labourer, working with his brother William at North Pacific Railroad. The following year both he and William were working for North Portland Freight Depot, John as a truckman.

In 1900, John, Katherine and all four of their children were living in Damascus, Oregon. Just as in Canada, John was working as a day labourer. His nephew Joseph Francis Teevin, son of William, was staying with them.

By 1910 the family were still living there, and John was again a farmer, just as he had been when living in Ontario as a young man.
