Note on Husband: James Joseph Teevan
After losing his parents, he was sent to live with his great aunt Mamie, (Mary), (d.1940), his grandfather James Hayden's sister. She was married to John Ahearn (d.1923). They had a son Francis(d.1942). His siblings were sent to live with another relative.
James' daughter also told me:
"My dad was sent to a Christian Brothers seminary as a young teenager. He was the only one of his siblings to receive a college education because of this. He was a teacher of English when he married my mom in November of 1941 and while on his honeymoon the US was attacked by Japan at Pearl Harbor. He was immediately drafted into the army and as the result of his education was promoted to first lieutenant. He was stationed in Texas and was involved in training soldiers for intelligence work. After the war he went to work for the US government in the OWI (Office of War Information). He subsequently went to work for the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS)staying for thirty years, working on many American television shows before retiring in 1978. He and my mom raised six kids on Long Island. There are 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren living in London and Toronto, Ontario,Canada, New York, New Jersey, South Carolina, Washington D.C., and Colorado.
My dad looked EXACTLY like a very old photograph that someone found of his father John. He was dark complexioned, with black hair and blue eyes. He was very handsome. He really was. He was very kind, very funny, prone to a bit of Irish melancholy, and a very loving, sweet man. He was a self taught painter of landscapes and a gardener, and kept a meticulously manicured lawn for 40 years! He devoted his life to his family and his work. He was deeply loved.
The gaps in his family history and the loss of his parents at such a
tender age seemed to weigh on him a bit, but I believe he found solace in the love of the family he and my mom created for themselves."
