Note on Marriage
Patrick, calling himself Joseph, was working as a dry goods storekeeper and living with his wife and three children in Kings, New York in 1910.
In 1920, Ann (Helen) and her son Edward were staying in Brooklyn Assembly District 7, Kings, New York with her mother and brother. Her mother owned the house and her brother worked as a mailer in a publishing house. She herself was a saleslady in a department store.
Note on Husband: Patrick Joseph Teevan
Biddy Flin (probably Flynn) was present at his birth, and was named as the informant on his birth certificate.
Emigrated to the USA from Butlersbridge with brother Edward in the 1880s.
According to one message on the internet:
"The brothers had a series of businesses together, including a well known and very popular Teevan Riding Academy just outside Prospect Park, Brooklyn."
Family owned Teevans Riding Academy near Prospect Park as well as a general store in Downtown Brooklyn. Lived in Bay Ridge and Flatbush.
Had about 10 children. One of them, Thomas (although this may be a middle name) has the following story:
"Thomas Teevan did not marry. As I understand it, he had a Protestant girlfriend at one point. His devoutly Catholic parents refused to give permission for them to marry. He and She went their separate ways but apparently he never got over it. He did have another girlfriend many years later, but he never married, had no children when he passed away a few years ago."
Again on the internet:
"Patrick had an elder brother named Edwin or Edward or Edmund? Both came to the U.S. There was another brother whose photo my father has, brother died around Christmas of pneumonia he caught on the train. He'd been a manager of a store and caught cold on the very long ride in the unheated railcar; died a few days later. Very sad. Looked to be in his twenties when the photo was taken. Patrick and Edwin/mund/ward came to Brooklyn as young men and launched several very successful businesses. Branch is still here and I have it online in ancestry.com. "Eddie" had several daughters who live in Westchester county. James had a daughter who also moved here to the US, if I'm remembering correctly. The rest of the family stayed in Cavan."
