MRCS

1838 - married Mary by the Established Church. Both listed their fathers as being farmers.

1841 - was living in Princes Place, Lambeth, Surrey with his wife and son, and his two brothers James and Michael.

1851 - Staying at 5 The Rise, Richmond, Surrey with his wife and children. Had one visitor (Sarah Ayres, age 68) and three servants.

1871 - No longer practising. As well as his family there was a visitor at their address, a 42-year old widow called Sidonie Hunter who was born in Mauritius. John also had five servants - a footman, cook, housemaid, kitchenmaid and stable boy. They lived at Woodside Court, Croydon, Surrey.

Croydon, Surrey Gravestones - Croydon Cemetery:

John Watton Teevan, M.A., d. Dec. 27, 1871, a 32

Henry James, his second son, d. Nov. 26, 1868, a 7

Arthur Watton, third son, d. Nov 26, 1868, a 5

William Watton, fourth son, d. Nov 27, 1868, a 3

Edward Watton, sixth son, d. Dec 10, 1870, a 1

HOWEVER - The index to deaths in England has the dates of death as occuring in 1848 and 1850. There are no matching deaths in the 1870s in England. So until I view the gravestone for myself I assume that there have been mistakes in the transcription. The death of John Watton Teevan in 1871 is that of the eldest son of the surgeon John Teevan, married to Mary Watton. However the children listed as his sons are actually his brothers. It would make sense if there were a few words missing from the top of the stone, which would indicate that the surgoen John either erected it or is buried there too.
