He was married in 1888-1890.

By 1900, he was a widower, living alone in Cincinnati. Working as a traveller, he rented his house.

In 1910, he and his son John were boarding in Cincinnati. Strangely, he now listed himself not as widowed, but as married. He was a solicitor for a telephone company.
