Dr. William P. Teevens, 86, of Grafton, North Dakota died, Thursday, May 4, 2006 at Unity Medical Center in Grafton.

William Peter Teevens was born January 1, 1920 in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada the son of John B. and Mary Louise (Fitzmaurice) Teevens. He was reared and educated at Pembroke. In 1943 he graduated from with his Medical Degree from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. He then began his medical career as an intern at Vancouver Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia. On May 10, 1943 he was united in marriage to Blanche Graham in Vancouver. For two years he served as a Medical Officer for the Canadian Army in England during World War II. He returned to Wauwota, Saskatchewan where he practiced medicine for ten years before moving to Grafton, North Dakota in 1953. He practiced medicine in Grafton for forty years retiring in 1993. Blanche died in November of 1987. On March 18, 1988 he was united in marriage to Edna Church in Drayton, North Dakota. They made their home in Grafton. Dr. Teevens was a member of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council for six years, a former member of the Knight of Columbus and served as Walsh County Coroner and Walsh County Health Officer for many years. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, flying, bowling and spending the weekends at his lake cottage. He was known to be a very unselfish, dedicated and caring doctor who often thought of his patients no matter where he was.

He is survived by his wife: Edna; children; step-son; grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Blanche; sisters, Helen Marion and Margaret Sullivan and brothers, Jim, Wilfred, Frank and George.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Monday, May 8, 2006 at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Grafton with burial in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm with a 5:00 pm Prayer Service and one hour prior to services. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Catholic Church, Hospice or the Unity Medical Center Foundation.
